Orlean Boughton, 101

Orlean Kathryn Boughton died Monday, October 28, 2013 at the age of 101. She was born in Amelia, Sask, Can. On August 17, 1912 the daughter of Dayton & Mary(Strickler)Halderman.

During her teen years she moved to Michigan and lived with relatives while attending school in Niles, MI. It was there she met her future husband through a cousin, Nolan Eugene Boughton and was married on May 6, 1933 in Elkhart, IN. For several years they lived in Cassopolis, MI before settling in Three Rivers, MI where she would spend the rest of her life. Orlean’s husband Nolan invented the two wheel pull cart(golf) shortly after World War II and that’s when they learned learned to play. Orlean was left handed and became quite the golfer, winning championships 22 times between 1970 and 1989 and continued to play golf well into her 90’s.

Orlean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers/Centreville, Jeane La Franc Circle, Friendship Circle , and the Three Rivers Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, cooking, and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow.

Orlean was preceded in death by her husband Nolan, her parents, and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a sister, Barbara Buttry and brother, Glenn Halderman, both of Canada; two sons, Richard (Bonnie) Boughton of Myrtle Beach, SC and Kenneth (Yong) Boughton, of Three Rivers ; six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:00a.m. until time of services at 12:00noon on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Hohner Funeral Home with Pastor Brenda Deily officiaiting.

Interment will take place at Prospect Hilll Cemetery in Cassopolis, MI.

Memorials in memory of Orlean may be donated to the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers/Centreville. Envelopes available at Hohner Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
