Patricia Clare Hurley-Burger, age 68, of Colon, died Friday Nov. 1, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born in Chicago on Nov. 8, 1944 the daughter of Richard and Evelyn (Collins) Parrish. She attended Dowagiac Schools and later attended Glen Oaks Community College. Pat was married to Daniel Hurley on Aug. 31, 1969 in Dowagiac, and they moved to Leonidas in 1979. Daniel died on April 19, 1993.
Patricia was a homemaker who also worked at the Coldwater Country Club and Riverside Country Club in Battle Creek. She was a consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics for several years. Pat served as secretary for the Leonidas Community Action Group and was a volunteer firefighter. She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Association, was an avid reader, and had many hobbies including knitting, stained glass, refinishing furniture, and making jewelry. She never missed a family sporting event and was their biggest and loudest fan.
Patricia was married to Edward Burger on Sep. 7, 2012. He survives along with 5 children, Christine (Quaid) Ali of Marshall, David Richard “Rick” (Pamela) Hurley of Sturgis, Pamela (Timothy) Riekels-Knezic of St. Joseph, Tamara “Tami” (Joseph) Millard of Sturgis, and Shawn Hurley of Union City; 14 grandchildren, Ryan McFate, Jason (Tiffany) McFate, Kimberly McFate, Stephen Hurley, Kaitlyn Castillo, Steven Matthews, Cindel Walter, Noah, Nicholas, Connor, and Tess Knezic, Corrine and Hannah Millard, and Daniel Mark “Monster” Hurley; 4 great-grandchildren, Lillian Pemberton, Colin McFate, Ava Matthew, and Nicholia Costillo; 2 sisters, Lynn (Richard) Accoe and Carol Pompey both of Dowagiac; a brother, Martin (Kelli Carrico) Parrish of Mishawaka,; brother in law, Dennis Peckham of Kalamazoo; sister in law, Sandy Turner-Parrish of Occoee, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Parrish,; her mother, Evelyn Parrish-Joines; her first husband, Dan; sister, Eileen Peckham; and brothers, Dennis and Edward Parrish.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, followed by a Rosary Service at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 5, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Father David Otto from St. Mary Catholic Church in Niles officiating. Cremation will follow services and a private interment of ashes will take place in Leonidas Cemetery.
