Football playoffs

A pair of St. Joseph County football teams remains in the state playoffs, while Cassopolis and Schoolcraft also picked up wins in the opening-round to continue their seasons.

In Division 8, Mendon routed Eau Claire, 67-to-0 Saturday, to up its season record to 10-and-0. The Hornets will play for a district title at 1 p.m. Saturday, when they host 9-and-1 Climax-Scotts. The match-up marks the third consecutive year the teams have met in the post-season.

Meanwhile, Constantine went on the road and knocked off an 8-and-1 Michigan Center squad Saturday, 41-to-26. The Falcons, now 6-and-4 on the season, will travel to Hillsdale for a 7 o’clock contest Friday night against the 7-and-3 Hornets.

Elsewhere, Schoolcraft topped Niles Brandywine, 28-to-21 and faces a 10-and-0 Watervliet squad Friday. Cassopolis beat Lake Michigan Catholic, 30-to-7, and hosts Decatur Friday night.

Sturgis and Burr Oak saw their seasons end Friday. The Trojans were shutout by St. Joseph, 16-to-0, and Burr Oak lost to Lawrence, 58-to-8.
