Doris E. McKale, age 100, of Burr Oak, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
Doris was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Burr Oak, a daughter of the late Lawson and Nelle (Passahl) Lancaster.
She had made her home in Burr Oak all her life, graduating from Burr Oak High School with the class of 1931.
On Oct. 5, 1940, she married Rex L. Upton in Bryan, Ohio. He passed away in 1961.
On June 14, 1964, she married Howard McKale, and he preceded her in death in 1978.
Doris was a homemaker and had worked on the family farm. She enjoyed working in the yard, playing cards, reading and puzzles.
She had been a member of the Burr Oak Home Club, Bur Oak Grange, Burr Oak Farm Bureau and Burr Oak Senior Citizen Group.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Bruce McKercher of Colon; nieces and nephews Bryan (Debra) McKercher of Richmond, Va., Deb (Robert) Long of Colon, Virgil (Retha) Lancaster of Burr Oak and Lois Faust of Stroh, Ind.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth (Maude) Lancaster; a sister, Carol McKercher; and a nephew, Donald Lancaster.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday Nov. 9, 2013, at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Doris E. McKale will take place at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
If desired, memorials may be made in memory of Doris to the Burr Oak Fire Department. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
