Oscar Grant, 95

Oscar G. Grant, 95, of White Pigeon, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Sturgis Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was born April 28, 1918, in LaGrange County, Ind., a son of George B. and Marie (Swinehart) Grant.

He had been a resident of the White Pigeon area most of his life.

On Nov. 6, 1940, he married June R. Dodd, in LaGrange, Ind. She preceded him in death Jan. 11, 2013.

He spent his early life as a farm worker, and hauled marl. He then started a career as an auto mechanic, and was owner and operator, with his brother Ralph, of Grant’s Auto Clinic in White Pigeon from 1945 to 1980. He also was employed 15 years as a mechanic at the White Pigeon Community Schools bus garage.

He was a charter member of White Pigeon Rotary Club in 1960. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, his work an woodworking. He was a licensed pilot who owned his own airplane.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen (Earl) Parker of Sturgis, Terri Taylor of Roanoke, Ind., and Jan (Albert) Marciniak of Dimondale; a son, Donald (Susan) Grant of White Pigeon; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a half-sister, Darlene Clark of Nottawa; a half-brother, John Grant of Constantine; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters; a brother; and a half-sister.

Visitation will be held noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Steve Kaszar, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in White Pigeon, will officiate. Interment will follow in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.
