Joseph “Joe” J. Milnamow, age 78, of Three Rivers, passed away after an illness on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Bronson Methodist Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in DeKalb, IL., on Jan. 28, 1935 the son of the late John J. and Therese (Ziegler) Milnamow.
Joe graduated from the University of Illinois in 1957 and served his country in the U.S. Army. On May 5, 1962 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Ruth (Seyller) Milnamow. Together they raised six wonderful children and have been blessed with fifteen grandchildren which were the center of Joe’s life and his pride and joy. He loved spending time with his family and attending sporting events, gardening, travel and local theatre.
Joe moved to Michigan in 1968 and began his career as the general manager of the Constantine Co-Op which continued for twenty seven years. He then worked for the U.S. Post office where he retired in 2011. He belonged to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Joe was a man of very strong faith and an active member of his church. All who knew him will remember his great sense of humor and optimistic attitude. He never met a stranger as he was always eager to speak with anyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife of 51 years, Ruth (Seyller) Milnamow, of Three Rivers; and children Mark (Sherry), of Noblesville, IN., Michelle (Scott) Morrill, of Three Rivers; Tim (Jamie) of Elkhart, IN., Brian (Michelle) of Granger, IN., Terry (Kristen), of Jenison, MI., Dan Milnamow, of Berkley, MI., fifteen grandchildren, Mandi , Matt, Carley and Christopher Morrill, Emily, Justin, Taylor, Rachel, Zachary, Andrew, Olivia, Braden, Camden, Lainie, and Joey Milnamow;. He is also survived by one sister, Therese Diedrich, of Salt Lake City, UT and a large extended family.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19th, 2013 and also Wednesday, Nov. 20th from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold Street Three Rivers, MI. The Rosary will be prayed beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 637 S. Douglas Avenue Three Rivers, MI with Fr. Mathew Manalel as celebrant.
Interment will be held in Moorepark Cemetery.
