Not going to state

All three area football teams bowed out of the state playoffs Saturday.

In Division 8, Mendon was beaten at home for the second consecutive year by Muskegon Catholic Central. Saturday’s 28-to-12 loss ends the Hornets season at 11-and-1.

Constantine, hoping to return to the Division 6 state championship game for the third time in three years, suffered a road loss to the Clinton Redskins, 47-to-28. The Falcons snuck into the playoffs with a 5-and-4 record and end their season at 7-and-5.

Meanwhile, Schoolcraft put its 10-and-1 record on the line against the Shelby Tigers and lost a road game, 33-to-7.

Further north, in Division 2, Portage Central is now 12-and-0 and will play in a state semifinal game at 1 o’clock Saturday against a one-loss Muskegon High School team. The game is at East Kentwood High School.
