Dolly J. “Dotty” Pike, age 79, of Jefferson City, Tenn., and a former Sturgis resident, passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at her home.
She was born Sept. 19, 1934, in South Bend, Ind., daughter of the late Kenneth A. and Sarah Elizabeth (Robison) Keyser.
Dotty resided in Tennessee for the past 10 years. She moved to Sturgis in 1969 from California.
On April 28, 1951, she married Lloyd Elwood Pike in Plymouth, Ind. He died June 26, 2000.
Dolly, with a love of life and a joy for living had a smile for everyone. As a people person she made time to listen to others, to be an encouragement. As well, she carried a special place in her heart for children and babies.
Some of the things she enjoyed were church, decorating, volunteer-work especially the Second Source Thrift Store in Jefferson City and the Jefferson City Senior Center and of course shopping. A McDonald’s cheeseburger fries and Coke made her day.
She has taught her family how to live, and with a rock solid confidence in Christ is now with her Lord.
She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Larry (Carol) Pike of Jefferson City, Tenn., and Lloyd Pike Jr. of Sturgis; one daughter, Betty (Mike) Lytle of Sturgis; five grandchildren, Dayla (Richard) Owmby of Sevierville, Tenn., Cherie (Tommy) Forrester of Jefferson City, Tenn., Renee Pike of Portland, Ore., Jason Lytle of Sturgis and Sonja (Bryan) Duffy of Sturgis; four great-granddaughters; seven great-grandsons; four sisters: Lois LaMere of Illinois, Gloria (Carl) Marks of Sturgis, Sheila (Tom) McBride of Elkhart, Ind.,and Mary Lecount of Elkhart, Ind.; two brothers, Jerry (Karen) Keyser of Sturgis and Wayne (Joyce) Keyser of Elkhart, Ind.; daughter-in-law: Patricia Sutton of Sturgis and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two grandsons, Dustin Pike and Benjamin Lytle; two sisters, Charlotte Craft and Bonnie Keyser and two brothers, William Keyser and Jimmy Keyser.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-3284. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dolly J. “Dotty” Pike will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 300 Timothy St. in Sturgis. Mr. Thomas McBride will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
