25th anniversary of homicide

St. Joseph County District Judge Jeff Middleton has issued a statement regarding the anniversary of a grim case in Three Rivers.

Middleton said Dec. 2 marks the 25-year anniversary of the homicide of Cathy Swartz.

The case remains unsolved.

Middleton recounted that Swartz was brutally murdered in her apartment at the Riverside Townhouses while her young daughter was in the room. Local law enforcement and Ken Baker in particular spent thousands of hours investigating the case without ever finding the killer.

During his time as county prosecutor, Middleton said he spent more time devoted to the case than he did any other.

Middleton said everyone involved in the investigation were sure it was a matter of time before the case was solved. Nonetheless, Middleton said, he has not given up hope and Three Rivers Det. Mike Mohney is still working leads on the case.
