Shooting was justified

A prosecutor says a Battle Creek police officer was justified in shooting a 14-year-old boy who had a toy gun in the waistband of his pants. The Battle Creek Enquirer and WOOD-TV report that Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert says the officer “violated no criminal law” when he wounded the boy in the shoulder Nov. 16 while responding to a report of a man with a gun. The officer tells state police that he twice told the teen to show his hands and fired when he saw the butt of a gun coming out of the boy’s waistband. Gilbert says in a report released Friday that the officer believed the boy “had pulled the gun like he wanted to engage him in an aggressive manner.”  (AP)
