Members of the Marine Corps League 1401 of St. Joseph County said the Sturgis distribution of toys by the Salvation Army was a success.
The event began Wednesday at the Sturgis Armory and included toys picked up from Toys for Tots. The local Salvation Army leader for the event said 300 families with 700 children collectively were helped by the effort.
Toys were presented on long tables throughout the armory hall, with labels telling the age grouping of toys for boys or girls.
Families also were given a food basket with a canned ham and other staples for a Christmas dinner.
Meanwhile, the Lions Club of Three Rivers distributed its Toys for Tots toys to families Dec. 14.
