iPads discussed at county meeting

The idea of St. Joseph County commissioners using iPads was a matter of discussion during the commission’s December committee-of-the-whole meeting.

Commissioners agreed the proposal should be tabled until the full allocation of iPads approved for purchase in April. The nine iPads commissioners approved last spring were to be distributed to officials with the prosecutor’s office as well as members of the St. Joseph County Area Narcotics unit.

Each iPad costs $929, but additional expense came from nine cases with wireless keyboards at $75 each, an Apple Care protection plan extended warranty for $99 each, two Apple TV connectors at $99 each and a $300 allocation to purchase apps.
