Dwayne Charles Gortner passed away at home on Dec. 19, 2013.
He was born to parents Leroy James and Willajean Gortner in White Pigeon, St. Joseph County, Mich.
He was a longtime resident of Orcutt, Calif. Before moving to Orcutt, Dwayne lived many years at Eagle Rock, Calif., and White Pigeon, Mich.
He served in Vietnam with the Navy Seabees in 1968 with an honorary discharge. He was an active member of the American Legion, American Legion Riders and Sons of American Legion for which he was commander. He worked for Verizon and Brookfield.
He is survivied by his wife, Debbie Gortner; son, Jeff Gortner and wife Rachel; sons, Jim Betts, Stephen Betts and Mikel and wife Meghan Betts; daughters and family Dennie and Mindy Carr, Ron and Miriya Breeden, Jeremy and Kimberly Willia; brother, Earl and Vickie Gortner; sister-in-law, Sharon Gortner; nieces Hedi Borscurion; her daughters, Brittany, Tiffany, Autumn and Amber; niece, Gretchen and her children James, Tim, Daniel, Meghan and grandchildren Kodi, Austin, Gavin, Chelsea, Scarlett, Corben, Brooklyn and Parker and Uncle Kenneth Garland.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Willajean Gortner; father, James Leroy Gortner; son, Christopher Charles Gortner and brother Ed Gortner.
Services were held at Dec. 27 at the Church of Christ, 795 E. Foster Road, Orcutt, Calif.
