Ella L. Balluff, age 91, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Thurston Woods Village.
She was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Nisland, S.D., a daughter of the late John and Anna (Peters) Freed.
Ella spent her early years and graduated high school in Sturgis, S.D, and had been a resident of Sturgis, Mich., since 1952, moving here from Illinois.
On July 19, 1947, she married Lyle B. Balluff in Rockford, Ill. He preceded her in death March 14, 1994.
She had been employed by Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 30 years in the same area assembling curtain rods, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Sturgis Church of Christ and enjoyed flowers, ceramics and knitting.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Thomas (Gwenda) Freed of Williston, N.D., and special friends Steve and Kathy McMasters of Sturgis, Mich., and Ralph and Shirley Parlin of Colon, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; three sisters; and special friend, Marcella Parlin.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Ella L. Balluff will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. The Rev. George Cleverley, Sturgis Church of Christ, will officiate.
