Lola Richards, 87

Lola Pearl Palmer Richards, age 87, of Sturgis, and formerly of Burr Oak, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Thurston Woods Village.

She was born July 1, 1926, in Pittsford, a daughter of the late Arthur and Florence (Ettinger) Palmer.

On Aug. 22, 1959, she married Russell “Gene” Richards in Bryan, Ohio. He passed away Jan. 29, 1992.

They had lived on a farm in Otsego and had farm animals that Lola really enjoyed, then moved to White Cloud at Hardy Dam, where they resided for 15 years and moved to Burr Oak in 1983.

Surviving are one granddaughter; one grandson; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Olen (Alice) Palmer of Burr Oak, Cloid Palmer of Sturgis and Brent Palmer of Portageville, Mo.; one sister, Nila (Robert) Jackson of Gresham, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Deloy Palmer, Victor Palmer, and Ream Palmer; a sister, Dean Krontz; and infant sister, Mona Palmer.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis.

Graveside services and interment will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at Portage Central Cemetery (South Westnedge Avenue and Shaver Road) in Portage, with the Rev. George Milliman, Burr Oak Missionary Church, officiating.

Memorial donations may be directed to Heartland Hospice or Thurston Woods Village. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
