Ray Pike, Jr., 80

Lauren Raymond “Ray” Pike Jr., age 80, of New Paltz, N.Y., passed away Friday night, Jan. 10, 2014, at Borgess Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born July 6, 1933, in Frontenac, Kan. Ray was a former longtime resident of Sturgis. He was a truck driver for most of his life and served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. Ray loved to fish and belonged to the Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Hackett of New Paltz; his daughter, JoAnne (Jay) Baker of Sturgis; his son, James (Christine) Pike of Wilmington, Del.; stepchildren Michael O’Brien of Florida and Michele (Chris) O’Brien of New York; grandchildren Christine (Terry) Clament of Three Oaks, Chad Wheeler of Sturgis, Jennifer Baker of Kalamazoo, Ryan Pike of Annapolis, Md., and Kelsey Pike and David Pike of Wilmington; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be a private family memorial at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
