Helen Joan Milliman, age 76, of Burr Oak, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at home.
She was born May 25, 1937, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Leon Burr and Pauline B. (Baldwin) Keeslar.
Joan graduated from Bronson High School with the class of 1955 and had been a resident of Bronson and Burr Oak all of her life.
On July 11, 1956, she married Cleon Milliman at Burr Oak United Methodist Church.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Montgomery Ward in the catalog department, drove school bus and worked at the deli at Miller’s Grocery Store.
Joan was a member of Burr Oak United Methodist Church and Women of the Moose since 1973. She enjoyed bowling and being involved as a 4-H leader for more than 30 years.
Surviving are her husband, Cleon; two sons, Raymond Milliman of Burr Oak and Richard Milliman of White Pigeon; two daughters, Robin (Monte) Bordner and Ruby (Jeff) Swett, both of Sturgis; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Arden R. Keeslar, Donald B. (Lori) Keeslar, Ronald M. (Renee) Keeslar and Michael J. (Gloria) Keeslar; a sister, Sharon J. (Jerry) Perry; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Helen Joan Milliman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Burr Oak United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Sterner officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in Burr Oak Cemetery. The family suggest memorial donations be directed to Burr Oak 4-H Club or Burr Oak United Methodist Church.
