A new rose blooms in heaven Edna E. Esseltine, age 93, of Colon, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
Edna was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Colon, a daughter of the late Earl E. and Grace (Ware) Hackenburg.
Edna lived all her life in Colon graduating from Colon High School with the class of 1937.
On Nov. 26, 1938, she married William H. Esseltine in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1982.
Edna was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and feeding and watching the birds.
She is survived by two sons, William E. (Linda) Esseltine of Sturgis and Richard A. Esseltine of Colon; four grandsons, Raymond A. Esseltine of Battle Creek, Rex A. Esseltine of Colon, Kurt Esseltine of Sturgis and Brett Esseltine of Burr Oak; two great-grandchildren, Gabe and Alicia; and several nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Halsey and Marian Landers; and two brothers, Ralph E. and Emmon R. Hackenburg.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Edna Esseltine will then take place at 8 p.m., with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. Cremation will follow with private burial of ashes at a later date at South Colon Cemetery.
If desired, memorials may be made in memory of Edna to the family to offset funeral expenses. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
