Five arrested for marijuana

The St. Joseph County Area Narcotics unit gathered 28 marijuana plants and made five arrests during a raid in Sturgis this week.

SCAN members executed a search warrant Tuesday at a residence in the 600 block of Jefferson Street, where an additional quantity of marijuana was packaged and appeared to be ready for sale.

Arrested were three women, ages 45, 28 and 22, and two men, ages 36 and 25. Their community of residence was not indicated in a department media release.

SCAN officials indicated they will seek charges for manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to deliver and maintaining a drug house.

The raid came as the result of a citizen’s tip.
