Lowell Jack Comstock, age 75, of rural Mendon died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at his home following a one-year illness. He was born In Kalamazoo, MI on Aug. 21, 1938 the son of the late Lowell and Leona (Shively) Comstock. Jack graduated from Mattawan High School with the class of 1956. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator in France. Jack was married to Selma Kasdorf in Kalamazoo on April 20, 1963, and soon after made their home in Leonidas Township.
Jack was involved in the construction, service and repair of elevators for several area companies. He was a proud member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors where he served as business agent and treasurer. His hobbies included raising cattle and travel. He and his wife especially enjoyed a six-week trip to Alaska in 2012.
Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Selma Comstock; four children, James Comstock (Donna Wangrid) of Anchorage, AK, Molly (Richard) Foster of Vicksburg, MI, Amy (Scott) Hagerty of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Bret (Kristi) Comstock of South Lyon, MI; eight grandchildren, Zach and Alyssa Foster, Barbara, Mercedes, and Serena Hagerty, Devon, Nathan, and Natalie Comstock; great-grandson, Quinn Walden; sisters, Patricia (Richard) Oswalt of Climax, MI, and Sue Hatfield of Kalamazoo; nephew, Jeff Oswalt; nieces, Dawn Hatfield and Jill Oswalt.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday Feb. 17, 2014 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Beard Cemetery.
