Sharon Lee Fryling, age 75, of Vicksburg, died Monday Feb. 24, 2014 at her home following a very short illness. She was born in Mendon, MI on Jan. 21, 1939 the daughter of Leo G. “Bud” Batten and Grace Elizabeth (Cook) Batten, and was a lifetime resident of the area. She graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1957, and married her high school sweetheart, Jack Fryling on June 28, 1958 in the West Mendon United Methodist Church.
Sharon was involved in numerous community activities. She and her husband, Jack were regular performers at the Mendon Kiwanis Showboat and the Vicksburg Main Street Revue. She especially enjoyed music and singing with her family and participated in many church choirs and cantatas. She has been recognized by the Red Cross for being a 72 unit blood-donor, for being a 10 year volunteer for Goodwill Industries, and as a fundraiser for the March of Dimes. Sharon was a member of the Red Hat Society and taught Sunday School at the West Mendon United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Fryling of Vicksburg; four children, Jacki (Kirby) Stevens of Mendon, Cary (Ginger) Fryling of Vicksburg, Cindy (Mark) Books of Three Rivers, and Cory Fryling of Ontario, CA; eight very special grandchildren , Chelsea (Jason) Booth, Kelly (Matt) Erickson, Colton Carr, Patricia Stevens, Cody Fryling, Cheyenne Fryling, Shelby (Michael) Kintz, and Bryann Books; a sister, Nancy (Luther) Ash of Mendon; sister in law, Virginia Reading of Winter Haven, FL; and aunt, Marion Frutig of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, David Reading.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. There will be no visitation on Friday. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday March 1, 2014 at the Mendon Elementary Gymnatorium with Rev. Marty Culver and Rev. Thoreau May officiating. Cremation will follow services and a private interment will take place later.
