Michael L. Frutig of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away March 17, 2014, at home.
He endured a brief battle with cancer, always maintaining a positive attitude. When asked how he was doing, his reply was anything from “I’m terminal just like all of us,” to “I’m feeling great, better than ever.” God had given him a great peace about where he was going to spend eternity. On to enjoy the fruit of the true vine.
Michael was born April 28, 1946. He was a 1964 graduate of Brighton, Ind., High School.
He chose a career in tool and die making. He worked for General Motors as journeyman, and he retired from Johnson Controls.
His career moved forward as he went into the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. He served in such places as Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm, Korea, Germany and elsewhere. He retired after 21 years of service as a chief warrant officer CW3.
Michael was a member and former officer of American Legion Post 215 in LaGrange, Ind., and a member of VFW Post 857 and Eagles Lodge 3512 in Fort Wayne.
The love and passion of Mike’s life was his family. He also liked making new friends and keeping in touch with old ones.
He enjoyed gardening. He was an avid reader, studying history, especially the Founding Fathers.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Huber) Frutig; a stepson, Donivon Huber; his mother, Marion Frutig; former wife Karen Frutig; children Heidi Blesch, Chris Frutig, Eric Frutig, and Phillip Frutig; grandchildren Monika Mckenzie, Joyce Blesch, Lucy Blesch, Michael D. Blesch, Cierr Root, Eric Frutig, Olivia Frutig, Phillip Frutig, Julia Frutig, Charles Frutig, Elijah Rowden and Mya Karen Frutig; and great-grandchildren Annalise Fry, Carment Jade Fultz and Brylee Grace Frutig.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Frutig; and his father, Phillip F. Frutig.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at noon Saturday, Mach 22, 2014, at American Legion Post 215 in La Grange.
Arrangements are by Midwest Funeral Home and Cremation Society, 4602 Newaygo Road, Fort Wayne Ind.
