Mr. William “Bill” Hugh Mitchell Jr., age 88, of Three Rivers, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at his home. He was born in Burgoon, OH., on May 2, 1925 the son of the late William Hugh and Minnie E. (Voorhies) Mitchell.
Bill graduated from Jackson Burgoon High School in 1943. Upon graduation Bill joined the U.S. Navy and attended the Midshipmen School Northwestern in Chicago, IL. to become an officer. On September 29, 1946 he married Phyllis (Garn) Mitchell.
Their first son Tom was born in 1948 while on the family farm in Burgoon, OH. Bill was called back to the Navy in 1951 in California. Upon his release in 1953 Bill attended Ohio State University and had his second child Reggie. He was a 4-H Agent in Wood County in 1955 and also a County Agent in Wyandot County and in 1956 welcomed their third child Debi.
In 1964 Bill entered the banking business and worked at many places during his career including, Fostoria, Old Fort, Bowling Green, and later the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Banking Degree. He later went to work in Litchfield, Allison, and was President of First Savings Bank in Three Rivers in 1982 when the family moved to Three Rivers. Bill was an active member of both the Burgoon United Methodist in Ohio, and First United Methodist Church of Three Rivers.
After his first wife’s passing in 1994 Bill married Mrs. Barbara (Warner) Schabes on May 12th 1995. Together they traveled in an R.V. group many miles over a ten year period including a stay in Florida before moving back to Three Rivers.
Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Phyllis, infant son, William III, one brother Ray, and two sisters Dorothy and Kate.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, wife, Barbara (Schabes) Mitchell, of Three Rivers; children, Tom (Gloria) Mitchell, Regina (Paul) Suprenant, and Debi (David) Cahall, Fred Schabes, Nona (Robert) Kirchner, and Jeff (Cathy) Schabes; grandchildren, Ryan Mitchell, Josh and Brice Suprenant, Chad (Jessica) Cahall, Jenna (Kyle) Clark, Phillip, Ashley, and Lucas Cahall, Nichole Kirchner, Derick (Melissa) Schabes, Katrina (Miguel) Zamudio, Kelli Schabes, Karrie, Kris (Tessy), and Kevin (Becky) Hoover. Great-grandchildren, Alexis, Savannah, Chase, Isabella, Emma, Alyvia, Alexys, Miguel Jr., Layla, Lilyana, Abbigail, Alyssa, Brooklyn, Mike, Alyssa, Isaiah, Amaria, Drake, Conner, Dylan, and Gabriella. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Hohner Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Rob Nystrom officiating.
Interment with Military honors will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont, OH., on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be donated to the First United Methodist Church.
