Phillip J. Powell, age 93, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Friday evening, April 11, 2014.
He was born May 8, 1920 in Marcellus, MI the son of Peter Phillip and Mary Ann (Hourihan) Powell. On June 1, 1946 in Kalamazoo, MI he married Leatrice June Adams who survives.
He graduated from Marcellus High School in 1939 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. He has been a resident of Kalamazoo since 1945 and owned and operated R.M. Sorlie Company in Kalamazoo.
Surviving besides his wife June, are three daughters, Sandra L. (Dennis) Munson of Portage, MI, Kyle Lynn (Jeffery) See of Plainwell, MI and Dale Ann (Edward) Greenwood of Rockhill, SC; one son, Gregory (Janalee) Powell of Kalamazoo; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 11 to 1 P.M. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, 52780 M-40, Marcellus, MI 49067
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Marcellus Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice, 5473 Croyden Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
