Martha Marie Cook, age 67, of Centreville, died Friday May 23, 2014 at her home. She was born in Battle Creek, MI on Sep. 20, 1946 the daughter of Thurl Eugene and Betty Rae (Worrell) West. She was a 1964 graduate of Vicksburg High School. Martha worked for International Business Machines (IBM) for over 27 years, and later for the Greater Kalamazoo United Way for over 15 years. Martha was married to John Cook on Aug. 7, 1965 in Mendon. They were later divorced.
Martha was a gardener and was known for her tulips. She enjoyed participating each year in the St. Joseph County Grange Fair. She enjoyed shopping and was a special gift-giver for every occasion. She also enjoyed travelling, and time with her exercise friends in Kalamazoo.
Martha is survived by two children, Carrie (Joshua) Brueck of Three Rivers, and Jonathan Cook of Wilderness, MO; five grandchildren, Corban Brueck, Julianna Brueck, Erika Cook, Harlow Cook, and Leea Cook; 2 great-grandsons; her mother, Betty Hortsfall of Galesburg; sister, Connie Hayward of Vicksburg; brother, Monty (Marcia) West of Richland; long-time companion, Robert Moughton of Vicksburg and his children, Bill (Jessica) Cox, Robert (Jessie) Moughton, and Amy Miller. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene West.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday and from 10 to 11 am Tuesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday May 27, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Dave Peterson, Pastor of the Centreville Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville. Memorials will be directed to the St. Joseph County Grange Fair, Master Gardeners Fund.
