Gladys LaCounte, 96

LaCounte obitGladys P. LaCounte, 96, of Three Rivers, died Thursday afternoon, May 29, 2014 at her home. She had been in failing health the past four years.

She was born April 30, 1918 in Detroit to Earl and Ethel (Paff) Roderick. On Oct. 25, 1936 she married Delbert LaCounte. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2001.

She is survived by one son, Earl Lewis (Jane) LaCounte of Goshen, Ind.; three grandchildren, Marc (Lori) LaCounte, Shayne (Karen) LaCounte and Ryan Moore; and four great-grandchildren, Slade, Austin, Jacob and Brendan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son, Sheldon Ray LaCounte.

Mrs. LaCounte lived the last 36 years at Corey Lake, in the home she built with her husband. She had previously resided on Harwood Lake and Elkhart, Ind.

She was a longtime member at Jones United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer. She retired after working many years as a secretary and bookkeeper for Nu-Day Paint and Best Realty, both of Elkhart, Ind.

Gladys will be well remembered for her large family meals; canning and freezing fruits and vegetables; and for the many gloves, mittens, and clothes she sewed and knitted for any child in need.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, June 2, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, Ind. Pastor Carolyn Fischer will officiate.

Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg, Ind.
