Edward Bernard Rustad, 86, of White Pigeon, passed away Thursday, June 12th, 2014 at Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Three Rivers. Edward was born in Roulette, North Dakota on July 10, 1927, a son of Edward A. and Ida (Florentine) Rustad. On August 27, 1976, he married Faye (Knight) Burkhead in Middlebury, IN. He helped start Journey Motor Home company in Elkhart, IN where he worked as the plant superintendent until he retired in 1988. He was also employed at Swinger RV. Edward served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1945 – 1946.
Edward is survived by his wife Faye Rustad, White Pigeon, daughters Vicki (Ben) Ross, White Pigeon, Valerie (Ron) Hawkins, Sturgis, and Cindy (Tom) Hicks, Sturgis; son Allen Rustad, Sturgis; daughter-in-law Connie Rumsey, Bronson; son-in-law Mike Christner, Shipshewana, IN; step-sons Mark (Wendy) Burkhead, Middlebury, and Gary Burkhead, Elkhart; sisters Aileen Morrison, Sturgis, Nora Stevens, Sturgis, and Twila Stewart, Alaska; brother Walter (Fern) Rustad, Wyoming; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jimmy Rustad, daughter Mary Christner, step-son Jerry Burkhead, sister Arla, Cora Miller, and Adeline Bontrager.
Cremation has taken place. Friends and family will be received Monday, June 23rd from 1-2 pm at Mottville Bible Church, with memorial services following at 2 pm. Pastor Harold Knight, Brenneman Missionary Church, Goshen, IN officiating. Interment will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
