Elmer C. “Chuck” Oswald, 83, a man of godly character and integrity, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus.
He died on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo following a short illness.
Born on Sept. 29, 1930 in Palms, Mich. the son of Andrew and Marguerite (Potts) Oswald.
Graduate of Western Michigan University, veteran of the U.S. Army, served in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Three Rivers area resident since 1953 coming from Minden, Mich. He was employed as an accountant for General Motors last working in Kalamazoo and retired in 1987. Past member of Three Rivers Bible Church and Bethany Chapel he was involved in leadership roles, was a youth leader, played and coached softball. He enjoyed U of M football and bowling. Currently attended Temple Baptist Church.
Married to Florence E. Cooley on Oct. 7, 1953 in Angola, Ind. She survives with his children, Deb (Wendell) Westcomb of Three Rivers, Steve (Sue) Oswald of Rittman, Ohio, Shirley (Jim) MacGregor of Vicksburg, Frank (Michell) Oswald of Grand Rapids, John Oswald of Lansing, Dave (Julie) Oswald of Allendale, Sharon Furey of Constantine; 29 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen (Robert) Lohr, Rita Stoner of Port Huron, Edna Hansen of Lansing; brother, Andrew (Eleanor) Oswald of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Services 11 a.m. on Friday, June 27 at Temple Baptist Church in Three Rivers with Mr. Steve Oswald officiating. Interment in Peek Cemetery with full military rites. Donations may be directed to the family.
