Marijuana plants seized

Citizen tips regarding marijuana-related activity resulted in the confiscation of nearly 22 marijuana plants Wednesday in Lockport Township.

A sheriff’s department media release stated members of the St. Joseph County Area Narcotics unit executed a search warrant in the 20000 block of M-86 regarding the manufacture of marijuana.

A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of 22 marijuana plants, processed marijuana, as well as several firearms.

Present as officers arrived on scene were three females ages 46, 43 and 25 years, and two males ages 28 and 20 years. A 2-year-old juvenile was also at the location.

SCAN was assisted by animal control, child protective services, and the county health department.

Following the investigation, the residence was condemned by the county Health Department because it was deemed unsafe for human habitation.
