It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our mother Maxine Straley, but with great joy knowing she has went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Maxine F. Straley, age 77, of Centreville, passed away Friday, July 11th, 2014 at Fairview Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre, Centreville.
Maxine was born in Muskegon, MI on July 25, 1936, a daughter of Murlen and Mary (Bowen) Winchel. On August 1, 1953, Maxine married Jerome Straley. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1994.
She attended Phillips Schools of Muskegon, MI. She was employed as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Fairview Nursing Home in Centreville for over 30 years. Maxine lived on a farm and loved animals, but she especially loved small dogs. She enjoyed crocheting and watching wrestling. Maxine was a den mother for the local cub scouts and boy scouts in Marcellus and also was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Maxine is survived by daughters Jane (Rob) Hambright of Hart, Jill Shearer of Sturgis, and Ju-Lee (Charlie) Bennett of Middlebury; sons James (Linda) Straley of Three Rivers and Jeff (Becky) Straley of Three Rivers; sisters Margaret Holden of Grand Haven and Marylee (Charlie) Valley of Muskegon; brothers Max Winchel of Marcellus and Marshall (June) Winchel of Muskegon; daughter-in-law Annie Straley of Checotah, OK; 25 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Jerome Straley, and two children at birth.
Friends and family will be received Monday, July 14 from 6-8 pm with religious services held on Tuesday, July 15 at 1 pm both at Eley Funeral Home, Centreville. Pastor Rob Hambright (Hart Christian Fellowship, Hart, MI) will be officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Eley Funeral Homes.
