Verneita Rose Lamb, 91, of Mishawaka, Ind., died peacefully in her home surrounded by three generations on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. She was born in Cavalier, N.D. on Feb. 26, 1923 the daughter of Henry and Anna (Andrews) Shafer. While working at Lockheed Aircraft in California during WWII she met Orion Lamb, the love of her life. They were married on May 1, 1943 and made their home in Constantine for over 50 years. Verneita worked for the Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 30 years where she served as union steward.
Verneita has a servant’s heart and was always thinking of others. She was a 50-year member of the Mendon Grange and worked the Grange booth at the St. Joseph County Fair. She was also a volunteer for the Cass County Council on Aging. She was an Ambassador at her current home at Waterford at Edison Lakes and helped develop the Chapel Room.
Verneita is survived by four children, Roger (Eden) Lamb of Conroe, Texas, Reva Cheri (Thomas) Underwood of South Bend, Ind., Warren (Jean) Lamb of Las Vegas, Nev. and Stephanie Ann (Patrick) Holland of El Cajon, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Cherie Bill of Elkhart, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orion, two brothers, Marquise Shafer and James Shafer; and a great-grandson, Samuel Lamb.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16 at the funeral home followed by burial in Mendon Cemetery.
