Melba Lillian Mohney, age 97, of Three Rivers, entered into eternal rest Wednesday Aug. 6, 2014 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Three Rivers. She was born in Buckley, IL on Jan. 11, 1917 the daughter of Julius and Louise (Dippel) Steinman. In August of 1954 she was married to Dale Mohney. Together they farmed two farms on Coon Hollow Road west of Three Rivers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She loved being with her family. Taking trips to Arizona and spending time with her son and family was her true pleasure. She enjoyed working with flowers. Melba was known for her delicious pies and cookies, and took them to her doctors and dentist at each appointment. She spent many years helping with the elections in Fabius Township. She was passionate about attending church where she helped with many bazaars, baking cookies to sell for the benefit of the church. For several years she made twice daily trips to the barn to feed her beloved barn cats.
Melba is survived by three children, Caroll (Jerry Truckey) Forreider of Three Rivers, Jerry (Suzanne) Mohney of Gilbert, AZ, and Charles (Faith) Mohney of Dowagiac; seven grandchildren, Thomas Bickel, Brenda Shue, Kevin (Cristie) Ernst, Keith (Cindy) Ernest, Dawn Vissar, Kimberly (Christopher) Scott, and Jason (Bonnie) Garwood; eleven great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; a brother, Jack Steinman; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale in 1997; four grandchildren, Mark Bickel, Deborah Bickel, Kathy Bickel, and Rebecah Garwood; brother, Harold Steinman; and three sisters, Opel, Isabel, and Gladys.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 pm Saturday Aug. 9, 2014 at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. John Hill, Pastor of the Newberg Norton Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow in Marcellus Cemetery.
