Leon Scritchfield, 75

Leon F. Scritchfield, age 75, of Mendon, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at RiverviewManor in Three Rivers.

Leon was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Riddleburg, Pa., a son of the late Ross andMildred (Heister) Scritchfield.

On May 16, 1964, he married Carol Orchel in Leonidas. She preceded him in death in 1997.

He had moved to Mendon as a youngster and had attended Leonidas and Colon schools.

He had been employed by Coburns Gas Station in Fulton, Ernie Weiricks Day Well and Septic, and the hardware store in Leonidas, Carl Green Gas station, Ruth Dalman Fuel Oil and Gas Delivery in Mendon, owned his own fuel oil and gas delivery business in Mendon, worked for Walters-Dimmick Petroleum in Three Rivers and Dury Oil Company in Sturgis and Armstrong International in Three Rivers.

He had been a member of the Leonidas Fire Department for 19 years, 1959-1978, and Mendon Fire Department for 12 years, 1978-1990. He also had been involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Leonidas. He loved his hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Arlene Orchel of Fulton.

There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service and burial of ashes will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Beard Cemetery, with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating.

If desired the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Leon to the Leonidas Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
