First day of school for public schools in St. Joseph County

Public schools in St. Joseph County and the rest of Michigan begin the 2014-15 academic year today.

In St. Joseph County, new superintendents can be found in Three Rivers and Colon, where Jean Logan and Vic Bugni, respectively, start the school year as leaders of their districts.

Students in White Pigeon and Centreville will see the result of extensive work over the summer in the form of building and technology upgrades. Also, Constantine Middle School underwent a $6.6 million overhaul over the summer.

In Mendon, the district used funds from the millage passed in February to purchase three buses and more student devices for classroom use. Wireless coverage upgrades were initiated in both the high school and the elementary, as well.

Meanwhile, Sturgis Public Schools expects an enrollment of about 3,400 students, keeping its position as the largest district in the county.
