Celebrity Waiter Night successful

Monday’s annual Celebrity Waiter Night at Curly’s in Colon drew a full house, creating a busy night for the United Way volunteers serving as wait staff.
Kelly Hostetler, St. Joseph County United Way director, said Curly’s co-owner Kathy Earl is a former board of directors member for six years and was in charge of the special-events committee. As a result, the idea of the Celebrity Waiter Night was born.
In addition to funds raised through a 50/50 raffle, the United Way was allowed to keep tips provided during the four-hour period starting at 5 p.m. Hostetler said if past amounts are an indication, Monday’s fundraiser would generate between $1,200 and $1,700.
The Centreville-based agency collected about $1,200 at Fiesta Mexicana a few weeks ago during a similar promotion at the Sturgis restaurant.
Monday’s group of volunteers included attorneys Deb Davis and Roger Bird, Probate Court Judge David Tomlinson and District Court Judge Rob Pattison, and Chris and Sara Herrmann, co-chairs of the 2015 campaign.
