Eva May Poffenberger, age 91, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Archie and Letha (Strohpaul) Keagle.
Mrs. Poffenberger lived nearly her whole life in Sturgis, with the exception of the five years she resided in Three Rivers.
On Jan. 5, 1940, she married Joseph Poffenberger in Three Rivers. He died March 23, 1993.
She was a homemaker, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1937. Mrs. Poffenberger enjoyed crossword puzzles, writing poetry, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Terry (Susan) Poffenberger of Sturgis; two grandchildren, Kevin Poffenberger of Kalamazoo and Nicole (TJ) Wickstrom of Cedar Springs; three great grandsons, Collin Poffenberger, Joshua Wickstrom and Evan Wickstrom; one sister, Joyce (David) Thomas of Florida; two nieces, Julie (Larry) Patterson of Sturgis and Jean Strong of North Carolina; and one nephew, John (Carol) Keagle of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Kathryn Holst and Helen Reeg and one brother, Harold “Bud” Keagle.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 p.m. Saturday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, followed by a procession to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis, where the funeral service celebrating the life of Eva May Poffenberger will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Paul Stern will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
