Sophia Barczak, 96

Sophia C. Barczak, 96, of White Pigeon, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, following an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 30, 1917, in Jackson, a daughter of Carl and Dominika (Best) Chrapek.

On Feb. 22, 1935, she married John A. Barczak in Jackson. He died Aug. 27, 1992.

In 1949, Sophia and John moved to Bronson, where they operated The Walnut Room until 1952, when they moved to White Pigeon, where they owned and operated Ten Pin Bar, later known as Barczak’s. The family restaurant later was moved to Mottville and was operated by their son for several years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon, and she enjoyed shopping, cooking and flowers.

Surviving are her two daughters, Carol A. Hoopes and Theresa Barczak, both of White Pigeon; a son, John E. (Madonna) Barczak of Conklin, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters; and three brothers.

Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Rosary services at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon. The Rev. Germain Perez Diaz, of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment will be in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.
