McCann trial delayed

A prospective trial date for Raymond McCann has been delayed at the request of his attorney, who also made a request for a change of venue.
McCann, 47, is a former Constantine police reserve officer charged with lying in testimony related to the unsolved 2007 homicide of Jodi Parrack.
Attorney James Mequio on Friday made the request before St. Joseph County Circuit Judge Paul Stutesman. Mequio made the request to relocate the trial after indicating media coverage of the case could result in an impartial jury.
McCann is a former friend of Parrack’s family and has not been charged with what has been declared homicide by asphyxiation. DNA evidence recovered from the dead girl’s body does not match DNA samples provided by McCann, investigators have said.
A hearing on defense evidence and venue motions is scheduled for Dec. 18.
