Marian L. Hassenger, age 92, of Constantine, passed away Thursday, November 27th, at her home. Marian was born in Constantine on March 19, 1922, a daughter of Raymond and Mildred (Miller) Luegge. Marian graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1938 and from Western Michigan College of Education in 1946 where she received a Bachelors degree in Rural Life and Education. On April 13, 1952 Marian married Forrest Hassenger at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Three Rivers. He preceded her in death August 17, 2008. She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and worked as a teacher in St. Joseph Co. for 22 years including 19 at White Pigeon retiring in 1981. Marian previously worked 6 years in Kalamazoo Co. and 5 years in Muskegon Co.
Marian is survived by three sons Steven (Doris) Hassenger of Colon, Paul (Cindy) Hassenger, of Sturgis, David (Katherine) Hassenger, of Three Rivers, sister Margaret (James) Johnson, of Three Rivers, grandchildren Karin Hassenger, Kurt Hassenger, Cameron Hassenger, Colin Hassenger, Christina Collins, Amanda Hassenger and Martin Hassenger, great grandchildren Samuel, Jacob and Noah Collins and her dearest friend June Cattell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Forrest Hassenger, son, Martin Hassenger, granddaughter, Samantha Hassenger, brothers William Earl Luegge and Raymond M Luegge.
Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday from 3 – 7 pm at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Religious Services will be held 11 am Thursday at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Three Rivers, with Robert O. Bartz – Pastor officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church Endowment fund. Interment will be at Constantine Township Cemetery.
