A 29-year-old Cassopolis woman was injured after she was involved in a three-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in Cass County.
Sheriff’s department officials said Ryan Rosalee Deckard, failed to slow down as she approached two vehicles that had stopped for a school bus shortly before 7:30 a.m. on M-60 in Newberg Township.
Deckard drove into the back of a vehicle driven by Nicholas Zonker, 23, of Elkhart. The force of the collision pushed Zonker’s vehicle into the back of a car driven by Joseph Letizia, 54, of Granger.
Neither Zonker nor Letizia were injured.
Deckard and her 5-year-old daughter were transported to Three Rivers Health, where Deckard was then airlifted to Kalamazoo for further treatment.
The vehicles struck by Deckard’s car were accelerating to pass the Three Rivers Community Schools bus, which was on the shoulder to allow traffic behind it to pass. The bus was not involved in the collision.
Seatbelts and a child car seat were used by all involved.
