Daune Lee Adams passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Dec. 31, 2014, in Sturgis, due to a courageous battle with cancer. He was 61. Duane was born Dec. 21, 1953, in Sturgis, to his parents, Ralph and Shirley ( Notestine) Adams. Duane resided most of his life in Sturgis, where he graduated from Sturgis High School in 1972. Duane married Cindy (Nusbaum) Lantz in 1975, which ended in divorce. They had three children together and remained friends. In 2011, Duane married the late DawnWatson, which ended in divorce. Duane went on to a fun bachelorhood and enjoyed his independence and freedom.
Duane had recently retired from Elkhart Plastics in Elkhart, Ind. Duane had formerly worked for Spruer & Sons Inc. for many years prior to Elkhart Plastics.
Duane loved getting out and visiting friends and family, as well as attending community functions. He was an avid member of Sturgis Toy Run, to which he dedicated more than seven years of service. He had a love of classic cars and collected Hot Wheels and model kits. You could always find Duane watching a few football games on the weekend, as well as Sturgis home football games on Friday nights. Duane was a lover of classic rock, river floats, camping, fast cars and weekends at local hangouts. He was especially fond of his family and friends. He will be missed at the Sturgis High School graduate class breakfasts on Saturdays.
Duane is survived by his parents, Ralph and Shirley Adams; two sons, Landon (Jesse) Adams of White Pigeon and Brandon (Nicole) Adams of Portage; a daughter, Chantal Adams (Will Taylor) of Sturgis; eight grandchildren, MichaelWebb, Aiden Adams, Courtney Knight, Xavier Adams, Drake Taylor, Eben Adams, Isaac and Olivia Adams; four brothers, Doug (Debbie) Adams, Bruce (Cindy) Adams and Tracy Adams; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Pam Wickwire.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and a brother, Charles “Chuck” Adams.
In accordance with Duane’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Farrand Funeral Home, 300 N. Kalamazoo St., in White Pigeon. A memorial service celebrating the life of Duane L. Adams will immediately follow visitation.
