Laura May Neamen, age 89, of Three Rivers, MI passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 after a recent illness.
She was born July 9, 1925 in Mishawaka, IN the daughter of Raymond F. and Marie F. (Smith) Johnson. She was raised in Edwardsburg, MI by her maternal grandparents Theodore and Samantha Smith. On July 23, 1944 in Elkhart, IN she married Lyle D. Neamen and they spent their married life in the Marcellus & Three Rivers area.
With a Master’s degree in Education she taught for 36 years starting in the one room school house and ended her career at the ISD in St. Joseph County. Her hobbies included traveling, going to her cabin in Baldwin, MI and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
Surviving is one daughter, Linda (LaVern) Blentlinger; one sister, Dorothy (James) Harr of South Bend, IN; one brother, Gale (Marlene) Marshall of Sturgis, MI; five grandchildren, Laura (Joe) Long of Tabor City, NC, Jannele Heckelman of Milwaukee, WI, Vern (Jolene) Blentlinger of Three Rivers, Aimee (David) Slossberg of West Palm Beach, FL and Lilah Blentlinger of Three Rivers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Neamen, daughter Lilah J. Heckelman, great-granddaughter Samantha Slossberg, two brothers Rod and Chuck Johnson and her sister Ethelene Tribble.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, January 16, 2015 in the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, Marcellus.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, January 17, 2015 in the funeral home with Pastor Randy Evans of New Beginnings Community Church of Sturgis officiating. Burial will follow in Marcellus Cemetery.
