A Kalamazoo man accused of killing his 2-year-old son faces sentencing next month after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. 40-year-old Brian Keith Roberts entered the plea Wednesday, the same day his trial was to begin in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court. Under a deal with prosecutors, felony murder and first-degree child abuse charges will be dismissed. Kalamazoo officers found Nehemiah Dodd unconscious Dec. 31, 2013, after they were called to a home. The child was pronounced dead Jan. 2, 2014. Doctors say the boy’s injuries were consistent with child abuse. Roberts had initially told police that Nehemiah fell down stairs. Sentencing is Feb. 9. Court documents show that the child had been in Roberts’ custody for a little more than three weeks before his death. (AP)
