Betty Bontrager, 84

Betty Mae Bontrager, age 84, formerly of White Pigeon, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was born Jan. 26, 1930, in White Pigeon, a daughter of William Stewart and EdnaMae (Simpson) McClain and attended Cook Country School on Vistula Road. Betty was a homemaker who also worked in the shipping department at Kent Company in Elkhart, Ind. On Sept. 3, 1948, Betty married Louis LaVerne Oswalt. Vern died on May 13, 1972. She later married Cornelius J. Bontrager in Elkhart. Neal died on May 25, 2010, and soon after, she moved to Missouri.

Betty is survived by three daughters, Laurie (Randy) Duke, Vickie Chevalier and Carrie Lattimer; three sons, Thomas (June) Oswalt, Robin Oswalt and Todd Oswalt; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Oswalt; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Chuck McClain and William McClain; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Oswalt and Rick Oswalt; three brothers, Dean, Kenneth and ClaytonMcClain; and a sister, Mary Jane McClain.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Shawn Cortelyou, pastor of United Church of God of Elkhart, officiating. Burial will be in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.
