Kenneth Airgood, 78

Kenneth L. Airgood, 78, of White Pigeon, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, following an extended illness. He was born Aug. 28, 1936, in White Pigeon, a son of Leland K. and Katherine J. (Rudloff ) Airgood. He lived all his life in White Pigeon, except for four years in the U.S. Navy, where he served on The Destroyer USS Carpenter stationed at Pearl Harbor. While in the Navy, he had ports of call in Australia, Hong Kong and Japan. He earned the rank BT-2.

He was a graduate of White Pigeon High School in 1955 and was last employed as the warehouse manager for Louisiana Pacific in Middlebury, Ind., for 22 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #210 in Middlebury, Ind., the Antique Tractor Club and the Tin Can Sailors Association. He was a member of the White Pigeon Township Board of Review and enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, the Detroit Tigers, Chicago Bears, MSU Spartans, auto racing, fishing and his red Jeep Wrangler.

On Jan. 21, 1961, he married Mary A. Mann in Goshen, Ind. She died Nov. 6, 2006.

Surviving are his daughter, Kay (Dean) Salyer of White Pigeon; sons, Kenneth J. (Sonja) Airgood of Marshall, Wis., Robert (AngieMcClane) Airgood of Sturgis and James (Amy) Airgood of Trenton; seven grandchildren, Kara and Branson Salyer, and Bryce, Andrew, Alexis, Ava and Keegan; a sister, Betty (Herb) Nihart of White Pigeon; special friend, Edna Smith of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Rodger C. Moyer of Sturgis Evangelical Church officiating. Interment will be in White Pigeon Township Cemetery, with full military rites.
