Al Pott, 60

Albert W. Pott, 60, of Colon, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at The Laurels Nursing Home of Coldwater.
Al is survived by his son, Andrew Pott of Grand Rapids; and his daughter, Stephanie Stankey of Kalamazoo, Mich.; along with his brother, Chris Pott of Sarasota, Fla. He’s also survived by his beloved dog named Calla.
Al was born Dec. 4, 1954, to Albert William Pott Jr. and Joan Cooper Pott at Harper Hospital in Detroit. He grew up in the Southfield-Royal Oak area and attended Southfield-Lathrup High School. Growing up, Al enjoyed being an Eagle Scout, which is probably where he grew a heart for various hobbies. He participated in the Eagle Scouts God and Country Program, and in school he was part of the football, swim and ski teams.
Al became quite skilled at woodworking, fishing, model-airplane building and flying. In fact, he pursued a pilot license and enjoyed flying on the weekends.
For several years, Al served as president of UCOM Inc. in Orland, Ind., during which he had a successful tenure.
Remembering his dad, Andrew writes, “I am very grateful for the sacrifices my dad made for me, and the fun times God allowed us to have together. I will never forget him coming to my baptism and being so proud. I know if my Dad could say one thing to you now, it would be that life is short, eternity is long, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

A memorial service will be planned for a later date and will be announced by the family. For more for information, contract Andrew at andrewpott11@gmail.com.
