George L. Cole, age 88, of Three Rivers passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Three Rivers Hospital. was born in Fabius Township to Delbert L and Ethel O (Stephenson) Cole on May 11, 1926. He attended Coon Hollow Grade School and graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1943.
After serving in the Army Air Corps in WW II, he was employed by the Huette Shoe Company. He was then employed by The Peterson Spring Corporation for 36 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Local 1253 United Automobile Workers, serving as its financial secretary for 17 years. George was member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3019, a member of the American Legion Post 170, and the Three Rivers Lion Club.
He served as District Governor of Lions of Michigan District 11-B-2 and served on the Michigan Eye Bank Board of Directors for 6 years. He was honored by being selected as the Three Rivers Lions Club Citizen of the Year. He donated blood for several years, then volunteered at, and promoted, blood drives for the American Red Cross at the JOCO Center. George served on the Cemetery and Park boards in Three Rivers.
He was a member of the Frosty Bowling League and the Mixed Bowling League for over 50 years and bowled in other leagues.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters Ellen Cole, Kyra (Walter) Tokarski, Dorothy M Cole, Juanita (Harold) Anderson, Ruth (Kenneth) Brooks and one brother, Delbert J Cole.
He is survived by his brother-in-law Walter Tokarski and nieces, Kathleen (Anderson) Wagner, Karen (Anderson) Bogerd, Lorraine Anderson and nephews, Dennis Tokarski and Joel Brooks. He is also survived by several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
