Out and About – Week of May 18th

The internet is full of remedies: everything from curing toenail fungus to preventing baldness. Some of these remedies actually work, and some are just plain crazy and could be harmful to your health. I have several skin tags on my upper body that I’d really like to get rid of. As a matter of fact, one physician in town refers to me as “Mole Man”. I wasn’t surprised to find some remedies for skin tags on Facebook. I’ll share them with you at this time. It’s up to you to try them out, if you wish, but please don’t blame me if they don’t work. Here they are:
Apply Tea Tree Oil and Aloe Vera twice a day with a cotton swab. Make sure to use pure Aloe Vera and not a lotion that contains it. You should see results in about two weeks.
Apply pineapple juice, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar twice a day. I’m sure the acid in the juices that makes this work. Battery acid would also work, but I wouldn’t recommend it. They say you should see results in from one to two weeks.
If you dissolve aspirin in a quarter cup of water, then apply that to the skin tag and cover the area with a Band-Aid, and do this daily, you might see results in about two weeks. Ibuprofen or anything other than a true aspirin will not work.
There are several other remedies suggested, but I don’t want anyone to get too excited about this with just one column, so I’ll list the remaining cures next week. If any of the above-mentioned cures work, I’d be interested in hearing about it. Meanwhile, I’ll try a couple of them and let you know my findings.
The Three Rivers Lions Club will be out in force the next two Saturdays seeking donations for the Annual White Cane Days. Saturday, May 23, you’ll find Lion members at the Three Rivers Harding’s and Walgreens. On Saturday, May 30, they’ll be stationed at Walgreens and the Three Rivers Wal-Mart. The hours for both Saturdays will be from 9 AM until 5 PM. All donations will go toward the purchase of eyeglasses for those less fortunate. The Lions use none of these funds for Administrative Services.
The Three Rivers Lions Club wishes to thank the community for their generous donations in the past. With these donations, they are able to better serve the local community and live up to their motto “WE SERVE”.
I can’t remember ever seeing such enthusiasm for mushroom hunting. The combination of rain and sun has really contributed to the availability of mushrooms in the wild. Good hunting, “Mushroom Lovers”.
We spent another weekend in Holland recently. This time it was for the Lions State Convention. The tulips are still in bloom, so if you can find the time, get Out and About and make the hour-plus ride over by the lake. Like Three Rivers, the residents of Holland love to have visitors.
If you’ve been bothered with an upset stomach lately, here are nine foods that should cure that bellyache: bananas, ginger, plain yogurt, papaya, applesauce, oatmeal, white rice, chamomile tea, and, of course, chicken broth. Chicken broth is a cure for many things, except for extending the life of a chicken.
I doubt that I’ll ever get used to some of the “techy” terms. The pound symbol, #, is now referred to as a “Hash-Tag”. Why? I’m sure there are other symbols that will be given new names. I have difficulty staying in the loop on all this stuff. “In the Loop” is a phrase that didn’t exist fifty years ago. I used to think that Japanese was a difficult language to learn. I have a strong feeling that learning English might not be that easy either. Comedian George Carlin had a blast with this topic.
Tomorrow evening we’ll be among the many who watch the final David Letterman Late Show. I’m not his biggest fan, but he must be good enough to last over thirty years. I’m sure he’ll not be dependent on his Social Security check.
See you Out and About!
