Edward L. Burger, age 70, of Colon, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at his home, following an extended illness.
Ed was born Sept. 21, 1944, in Sioux Falls, S.D., a son of the late Charles and Agnes (Falbe) Burger.
He had served in the U.S. Army during the VietnamWar.
On June 1, 1977, Ed married Amelia S. Miller inMendon. She preceded him in death Nov. 24, 2007. He later married Pat Hurley, who also preceded him in death in 2013.
Ed had worked as a master welder for Dover Corporation in Portage.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon and also a member of Colon American Legion Post #454 and life member of Three Rivers VFW.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph (Julie) Burger of Burr Oak and Eric (Maryruth) Burger of Colon; four grandchildren, Ragen, Aaron, Morgan and Emily; a stepdaughter, Tami (Joe) Millard of Sturgis; two stepgrandchildren, Corrine and Hannah; two brothers, Robert (Diane) Burger of Jackson and Charles Burger of Connecticut; a sister, Mary Burger of Battle Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Edward L. Burger will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor David Grimm officiating. Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, with military honors conferred by Fort Custer National Cemetery Honor Guard.
If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Ed to Colon American Legion. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
