Saturday’s alumni football game between Centreville and Colon has taken on new meaning.
Earlier this week, both teams decided to donate a portion of the proceeds of the game to the family of Robert Roll.
Roll, a 2003 Constantine High School graduate, suffered a severe neck injury in last weekend’s alumni game against White Pigeon. Doctors determined Roll suffered a fracture of his cervical spine.
The Bulldogs and Magi will both field teams of about 20 players and began practicing Monday for Saturday’s matchup.
After surgery July 4, Roll was gaining movement in his arms and hands. He also had tingling in his legs and feet. Constantine Coach Shawn Griffith said Roll is in high spirits and is positive.
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday in Centreville.
